You probably didn't grow up watching rugby.
Most Americans didn't. It wasn't on Friday night television. It wasn't the sport your dad played in the backyard or your coach pushed you toward in middle school. For most people in this country, rugby was something that happened somewhere else — in New Zealand, in England, in South Africa — to people who had grown up with a ball in their hands from the time they could walk.
And then something happened. Maybe you stumbled across a highlights reel at two in the morning and couldn't stop watching. Maybe a friend dragged you to a match and you sat in the stands thinking — what is this and why has nobody told me about it? Maybe you played for a semester in college and life got in the way and ten years later you still think about it. Maybe you have never seen a game in your life but something about the culture — the physicality, the community, the way players from both teams share a meal after trying to destroy each other for eighty minutes — made you feel like this was your sport before you ever laced up a boot.
However you got here, you got here. And that is exactly why ClubRugbyUSA.com exists.
What This Site Is
ClubRugbyUSA.com is a grassroots rugby community built by a player, for players.
Not for governing bodies. Not for sponsors. Not for people who watch the sport from a distance and write about it like it is a product to be marketed. For the people who play it on Saturday mornings on public parks, who volunteer their evenings to coach youth teams, who drive two hours to an away match and consider it a good weekend. For the people who know that rugby is the best sport in the world and cannot understand why more Americans haven't figured that out yet.
Our mission is simple. Get more Americans on the pitch.
We do that three ways.
We help you find a club. The single biggest barrier to playing rugby in America is not fitness, not experience, not age, not body type. It is not knowing where to go. ClubRugbyUSA.com is building the most comprehensive club directory in American grassroots rugby — searchable by state and region, with real information about training schedules, contact details, and what each club is actually like. Whatever city you are in, we want to connect you with the people who are already playing there.
We build community. Rugby is not just a sport. It is a culture, a set of values, and a network of people who will have your back on and off the pitch. Our forum — built around groups like The Clubhouse, Boots on the Ground, The Scrum Room, and Proud to Ruck — is where that community lives online. New players, veterans, coaches, parents, fans, and everyone in between. Come as you are.
We cover the game. From Major League Rugby news to club spotlights to grassroots stories that never make the mainstream sports press — we publish content that connects the professional game to the people who play it at the club level. Written by rugby people, for rugby people. No corporate fluff. No filler. Just rugby.
Who This Site Is For
Everyone.
That is not a throwaway line. Rugby is genuinely one of the few sports where everyone means everyone.
The 250-pound former offensive lineman who thought competitive sport was behind him. The soccer player who wants more contact. The person who has never played a team sport in their life but has always wanted to belong to something. The LGBTQ+ athlete who loves competition but has never felt fully at home in a locker room. The parent whose kid just discovered the game and wants to understand what they are getting into. The returning player who stepped away five years ago and has been thinking about coming back ever since.
Rugby finds people. It has a habit of that. People who never expected to play it end up defining their lives around it. We have seen it happen too many times to think it is a coincidence. There is something in this sport that meets people where they are and gives them exactly what they were looking for — even when they did not know they were looking.
This site is for all of them.
A Word on Inclusion
Rugby has always been ahead of the curve on this. While other sports were still debating whether there was room for everyone, rugby was already building LGBTQ+ clubs, welcoming players of every size and background, and operating on the principle that what matters is whether you show up and give everything you have.
ClubRugbyUSA.com carries that tradition forward. The Proud to Ruck community within our forum is a dedicated home for LGBTQ+ players, coaches, and allies. Our club directory flags inclusive and LGBTQ+-specific clubs so that no one has to wonder whether they will be welcome before they walk through the door. The answer is yes. It has always been yes. We just want to make sure everyone knows it.
What Comes Next
This site is a work in progress. The club directory is growing. The community is just getting started. The content pipeline is running and there is a lot more coming.
What we need is you.
If you play for a club — tell us about it. If you coach a youth program — share it here. If you are brand new to rugby and have no idea where to start — post in Boots on the Ground and let the community point you in the right direction. If you have a story worth telling about what this sport has meant in your life — we want to hear it.
ClubRugbyUSA.com is only as good as the community that builds it. Rugby has always worked that way. The best clubs in this country are not the ones with the biggest budgets or the fanciest facilities. They are the ones with the best people. People who show up, contribute, and make everyone around them better.
Be those people here.
The Pitch Is Waiting
American rugby is growing. Major League Rugby is expanding. Youth programs are emerging in cities that had never seen the sport five years ago. The pipeline from youth to high school to college to club to professional is taking shape in a way it never has before in this country.
This is the moment. This is when the sport breaks through or doesn't. And that outcome is not decided in boardrooms or television deals. It is decided in the moments when a curious person types "rugby club near me" into a search engine and either finds something that welcomes them in — or finds nothing and moves on.
ClubRugbyUSA.com exists to make sure they find something.
Welcome to the community. We are glad the game found you.
Now let's find you a club.
